Real Magic

I often put down any hardcore belief in magic, in the sorcery sense. While it is entertaining, it doesn't even rise to the level of pseudo science and would not be a viable starting point for any research.

However, I did attend a presentation in which I had to say "hey, this is kind of cool in an unexplainable way". I was at a presentation on healing touch given by a RN and she told us about something kinda off topic to try. Before I tell you about that let me say that healing touch is not magic. Research on animals shows that a newborn that is not touched will die. Serious stuff and carries a lot of implications on how to interact with the people, at all ages, especially the ones we care about.

So this nurse told us to try holding our hands a couple of inches above a friends back with no way for them to see where our hand was at, and then ask them to sense where our hand was. So I tried this with my wife and every time she could tell me where my hand was at. My hand was a couple to several inches away from her skin and there was no way that she could see me. So we swapped and I could feel her hands presence even several inches away from me. This branches into all kind of topics and I have to say I was intrigued. So we do emit something beyond what could be described as perceiveable by our five sense. You can argue that maybe it's just heat, but I like the idea that we do in fact have some magic in us. We are more than just a walking pile of chemicals. We have the power to let people know we care, to comfort and maybe even prevent illness, with just a touch.
